Our world is changing so rapidly and with so much uncertainty it can be a struggle to know your thoughts, let alone yourself. Together we will help you gather your thoughts and ultimately yourself. Much of my work involves handling the overwhelming amount of information and questions we are all faced with on a daily basis. As we do this, we will also help you gather more information about yourself; how you think, what you wish for or desire and how does where you came from shape and influence you.
We will also help you to feel more grounded in yourself and in the present moment. The current level of distraction in our everyday lives is unprecedented and can be bewildering, confusing and overwhelming. Our time spent in front of screens, consuming information from the internet, social media and witnessing the explosion of artificial intelligence challenges us to stay in touch with ourselves and our immediate lived experience. I am old enough to know what life was like before the internet and smart phones. As I confronted my own challenges and childhood wounds, in addtion to my training in mental health, I sought any experience that would help me connect to and engage with my emotional and physical body. These experiences have included improvisational theater, mind body practices such as yoga, alexander movement, feldenkrais and various movement trainings. I also am a long term practitioner of practice mindfulness. I am constantly sourcing my knowledge and background in these areas and weave them into our work. As we do the work of therapy, we will also stay in touch with your experience of yourself and help you feel grounded and capable.
The journey of psychotherapy looks and feels different for each person. However, with everyone I work with, our process is collaborative, and tailored to your particular needs. Taking the first step to reach out can be challenging, and I appreciate your courage in doing so.
I provide both short term and long term therapy:
Short term:
Sometimes people aren't looking to make big changes in their lives, but want to address specific problems and obstacles they are facing. They are seeking insight and concrete tools to address their difficulties differently.
Long term:
Making fundamental changes in our lives require a deeper understanding of what influences our behavior and day-to-day living. Longer term treatment helps people incrementally integrate these fundamental changes, so that the changes are enduring.
In person Sessions: Mondays and Thursdays only (mid-town Manhattan office)
Telehealth (Video): Monday through Thursday, available to residents of New York State, Minnesota and Maryland.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
Warmly,
Stephen
